VicRoads: Peer Developed Testing Routes

Published: Thursday 16 January 2025

Please read the important information below before deciding whether you wish to download and use the routes that have been shared in this section:

VicRoads requires that, since November 2018, all OTDA implemented on-road tests follow the 2018 OTDT guidelines. The self-regulation model of compliance assumes that all OTDAs as health professionals, will take responsibility for applying the guidelines in their practice as they undertake on-road OT driving assessments in Victoria.

To support OTDAs to have a variety of routes available for use, Occupational Therapy Australia (OTA) has committed to make available a range of routes that have been developed by OTDAs in Victoria.

Important note:

The testing routes that have been made available for OTA to share with OTDAs have been developed by your peers.

Roads and other aspects of testing routes may change over time. OTA acknowledges that OTDAs may submit on-road testing routes to share that may inadvertently contain errors – making them non-compliant with the 2018 OTDT guidelines. (see Guidelines via the Occupational Therapy Driving Test Assessment Manual, March 2018, v2). The self-regulation model of compliance assumes that all OTDAs as health professionals, will take responsibility for applying the guidelines

OTA cannot, therefore, guarantee that any of the available routes comply with the 2018 OTDT guidelines.

OTDAs choosing to use routes that have been shared by other OTDAs via the OTA website or via OTA distribution do so at your own discretion.

OTA accepts NO liability for the use of an on-road testing route which is found to be NON-compliant with the 2018 OTDT guidelines.

OTA strongly advises any OT wishing to use a route that they have not developed themselves to check the route’s compliance with the 2018 OTDT guidelines using the following resources available in the OTDT Toolkit:

  • Standard Route Checklist Template
  • Open Area Test Route Compliance Tool
  • Summary of Requirements - Open Area Test Routes

Should you be considering downloading a driving assessment route from those offered in the table below, please consider the hours of time that your peers have devoted to developing this work, and their generosity in sharing the assessment route with you. A collegiate approach assumes that you will also contribute your own route for sharing with others.

You can find the list of approved routes from 2020 here and the list of approved routes from 2017-18 here.
